GCC pledges $1.7bn Gaza aid

RIYADH: The GCC countries pledged $1.65 billion (BD620 million) yesterday towards reconstruction of the Gaza Strip one day before an international donors meeting in Egypt, the Saudi news agency SPA said.

Meeting in Riyadh, the GCC foreign ministers agreed that they would offer the sum at the meeting today in Sharm El-Sheikh for the reconstruction of Gaza, devastated by Israel’s three-week siege in December and January. They also said they would establish a programme for rebuilding Gaza that would allow other Arab countries to take part.
