US imposes sanctions on four FDLR leaders

almasakinMissoula, March 4 (Al-Masakin)–The United States, pursuant to Executive Order 13413, has frozen the assets and prohibited ”US persons”  from having having transactions with four leaders of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR): Callixte Mbarushimana, Stansislas Nzeyimana, Pacifique Ntawunguka, and Leopold Mujyambere.

According to a State Department press release this morning the FDLR: “has continued to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity in the DRC.”   Statement to the press said that the United States supports the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and urged the FDLR to disarm and return to Rwanda.

“We support the governments of the DRC and Rwanda in their efforts to end the FDLR threat; we urge the FDLR to respect humanitarian law, protect civilians and undergo peaceful disarmament and demobilization; and we encourage rank-and-file FDLR members to voluntarily disarm and repatriate to Rwanda.”
